Fall

Lost in the wind,
Papers run hair flies
bare ankles quiver,
brutal on Texas skin.

A blizzard of dust,
Dishovels coats cuts eyes
invades pores and buds disapprove-
our warning.

Skies darken,
telling others to do the same
Suddenly the sun matches the terrain,
moods synchronize.

Pages are dedicated,
to the season the monks have been awaiting
It is worshipped in black, brown, orange and leather,
We wear it.

Vigils are held,
commemorating the death of a good season
out with the new and in with the newer,
A reason for bonfires.

Autumn calls,
We Answer

  1. This was a great poem. I really liked the examples and the first two stanzas. Your word choice such as "cuts eyes" and "blizzard of dust" are very neat. Normally you don't associate blizzard with dust but with snow. Very good word choice.

I don't understand the part about skies darkening and others doing the same. I guess the mood that a dreary day gives people. The fourth stanza is confusing to me. I don't understand what road you are going on. Maybe it's just me, but what were you hinting at?

Anyway, keep up the good work.

  2. I like how the changes of the seasons mean the changes of the cloths we wear and that also the mood reflecting the the weather pattern. its almost like we don't plan on doing these things yet the weather reminds us that its time to change for example the line "We answer." Also that each year the cloths become more fashionable and unique when you said "out with the new and in with the newer." I really like the imagery as well when the leaves change to the cloths changing. Awesome Job.

  3. Great poem!! I really enjoyed reading it. Fall is my favorite season and I loved all the imagery you used. The first time I read it, the stanza starting with "Pages were dedicated..." really confused me but when you explained it in class, I thought it was very creative. However, since it's a bit confusing I would suggest using a few different words to make your point clear. I like how you tie monks and worshipping together, but maybe instead of monks you could flat out say editors or something similar. Just to make the point clear.

Other than that, the only thing I would suggest is to make it longer and talk about other fall images. Great job!
